Zithromax Azithromycin

Zithromax azithromycin is a synthetic macrolide antibiotic related to clarithromycin (Biaxin) and erythromycin. Azithromycin used to suppress varieties of bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Hemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, mycobacterium aveum, Mycoplasma pnuemoniae and many others. Like all other macrolide antibiotics, azithromycin prevents bacteria growth by interfering with their ability to make proteins. It does not interfere with growth of humans proteins. It only stops the protein growth in bacteria. It has a long half-life (stays in human body for a long period), only a single dose would be sufficient for people.

There are many varieties of Zithromax azithromycin in the market. 250mg, 500 and 600mg tablets are available in the market. This medicine is good and effective against bacteria causing tonsils, otitis media (infection of middle ear), bronchitis, pneumonia, laryngitis, and sinusitis. It acts effectively on sexually transmitted diseases. Patients must use this drug without other antibiotics containing magnesium and aluminum. Antacids such as Maalox or Mylanta prevent intestine from absorbing azithromycin.

Pregnant women should use Azithromycin only under supervision of a doctor. For nursing mothers there is no evidence about the medicine effecting breast milk. Common side effects of Zithromax azithromycin are diarrhea, loose stools, abdominal pain, vomiting, and nausea. However, these effects are not common among all people, only one in twenty people face such symptoms. Some of the other side effects of this drug are allergic reactions, abnormal liver tests, and nervousness.

Zithromax azithromycin take it by mouth or with food as directed by the doctor. It is good to consume only a single dose a day. If by chance, a patient takes Zithromax azithromycin with antacids he should consult a doctor and check the status of his health. People having liver, kidney problems should avoid taking this drug as it creates few other serious problems.
